New York Times Post on Digital Fabric and Fashion

So maybe I need to retire to London. Here is an article on digital fabric and fashion designers from the New York Times. Just click.

Artwear - Jacket/Coat

Image
The construction was a kicker, but the jacket coat is completed. Constructed from recycled sheets and curtains. Gradient dye on the charcoal and coral fabric, low water immersion on the orange and white. I rushed this to get some shots taken for submission to one exhibit in and one art walk I needed to meet the deadline for. I think it will take about three tries for me to master the construction to my satisfaction, so several of my friends will receive the samples. In the meantime, this week I dye fabric and shirts for a fair on April 26th and I think I'll dye some sheets too, for more jackets. What do you think?

Photos Finished

Image
Moving right along. All of the scarves are photographed and the listing text is written. One scarf listed tonight, I'll add one a day to Etsy and get all of them listed on 1000markets one day this week. So now I'm on to the artwear jacket for the ecology show in Encinitas. Has to be completed by Friday. I thought about not taking this on, but I can't miss an opportunity to participate in a local show, featuring green products. After I finish the artwear piece, it's on to the shirts for the April 26th North Park Crafts Mafia show. The images are the new scarves. Cotton batiste, cotton linen blend, silk hemp, dyed with Procion MX dyes, hand hemmed or self fringed. You can find them on yasmintoo! That's it for the moment. Good night.

Photographing Scarves and Other Square and Rectangular Items

I was hoping to photograph the stoles and shawls on Thursday. That didn't work out. Wanted to use my sister Leigh as a model, and our schedules changed and we weren't able to work out a new time convenient for both of us. So I took a look at the Hermes site to see how they shoot images of their extremely expensive and luxurious products. First everything is shot on an angle. This resolves one issue with shooting squares and rectangles. The distortion of the geometric shape. With scarves, this often means cropping off a border when trying to square the image up in Photoshop. Then no human models. Instead whimsically illustrated line drawings for a back drop. At the Hermes level this is a cost saving technique and the drawings are charming and much less difficult to deal with than a 17 year old Russian high fashion model. (For some reason I don't think many 17 year olds are purchasing $775.00 Hermes scarves.) So, I'm pulling out some my roll of newsprint. Using so...
