North Charleston Arts Festival
5th Annual ART Quilt Exhibition
2011 Call For Entries
Purpose
This exhibition was established to provide a venue for sage art quilters and emerging art quilters who see the connection between Art/Humanity
“In art there is compassion, in compassion there is humanity, with humanity there is generosity and love."
Brock Peters
Eligibility
Art/Humanity is open to quilters within the United States, it’s provinces, Mexico and Canada. Only quilts or quilted hangings will be considered. A quilt is a fabric sandwich comprised of three layers: a top, a back and filling which are held together with quilting or tying threads. Integration of non-fabric embellishments is acceptable and encouraged.
Quilts submitted should explore themes of Art, humanity, compassion, service, generosity, and love. What do these concepts mean to you as an art quilter? Quilts must be an original design or an original execution of a traditional pattern. Quilt dimensions must not be less than 12" x 12" nor exceed 84"x 84"and each quilt must have a 4" hanging sleeve and an identifying label on the back of the quilt. Quilts that have been exhibited nationally in the previous 5 years are not eligible.
Quilts requiring special support frames or which contain fragile or breakable embellishments will not be accepted for the show. We reserve the right to refuse quilts which are controversial or felt to be inappropriate to the theme of the exhibition.
NCCA Department will make a list available to our visitors of quilts that are for sale. We will provide any interested parties with your sale price and contact information. We do require a 10% commission on any pieces that are sold.
We look forward to receiving your entry. Feel free to telephone me with any questions comments or concerns.

Entry Process
Our 2011 jurying process will be done from digital images only. Entrants should submit two images per entry (one overall view and one detail view). All images must be of publication quality.
Each entry must also include an artist's statement of no more than 100 words describing the story or the inspiration behind the quilt. Entries must be received via email no later than the close of business March 11, 2011. The number of works included in the exhibit will depend on the number of entries submitted and the space available.
We are seeking innovative and original works only. No kits or quilts made in a workshop with the aid of an instructor. Quilt must be multi-layered and joined by stitching. Dimension in any direction must not exceed 84 inches. We welcome both small and large works. Only quilts created by YOU are eligible and each quilt must have a label that includes your name and the name of the person who did the quilting, if that was not you, the date created as well as the title. Only quilts that have been created after December 1, 2008, and have not been previously exhibited nationally, are eligible.
Digital Images
Digital images must be saved as a high quality JPEG file. Images must accurately reflect the appearance of the quilt. Any digital image correction, aside from cropping, should be done only to ensure accuracy, and should not artificially enhance the image. Jurors reserve the right to refuse any quilt that differs significantly from the image submitted. We suggest using at least a 3 megapixel camera at the highest resolution. Finished images should be at least 300 DPIs on the longest side. If you have any questions about finding the resolution of your digital image, please contact Lauren Lynn at lynnl@northcharleston.org.
