Tuesday’s Designer – Marie-Emilie of Belette Print

Today's Tuesday's Designer travels to France to visit Marie-Emilie of Belette Print.

I printed the kiwi fruit design with two of my hand carved linocut plates. Printed with Gerstaecker traditional oil based ink (permanent). Belette Print, Marie-Emilie

Marie-Emilie designs fresh prints using the lino cut or linogravure process. Her prints are created on both paper and fabric. The prints are available for matting and framing, as note cards, purses, bags, and accessories.

Carte Toucan Toco card. Seven lino blocks (carved by hand) are needed to print this colorful Toco Toucan!
Each plate is inked with a different color brown, yellow, red, black, green. Printed with Schminke water-based, linoprint inks. The print is titled and signed. Marie-Emilie, Belette Print
From Marie-Emilie - "Young French woman, curious, inquiring mind, I practice linocut, drawing, clay sculpting as an amateur. I have a real passion for those activities!"

"I've been initiated in traditional engraving (etching, copper printing plates...) in the Musée Carnavalet's workshop (Paris). Here I took a fancy to this amazing expression vector: each print is unique!"

La Carpe, printed on a "Dorée" paper 170g/m² with Schminke water-based linoprint colours, signed and dated. Marie-Emilie, Belette Print

"Linocut is easier to operate so I can practice it every day at home with a press for the black line method.Working with animals - they are my favorite models. I particularly like the gracefulness of birds."

Each item listing in the Belette Print Etsy shop includes images of several steps in the creative process. I love that Marie-Emilie takes the time to pass on information about her craft. Her blog Belette Prints Linogravure contains more indepth tutorials. The blog is written in French (why not?). No French? No problem. A picture is truly worth a thousand words.
