Tuesday’s Designer – Marie-Emilie of Belette Print


Today's Tuesday's Designer travels to France to visit Marie-Emilie of Belette Print.

I printed the kiwi fruit design with two of my hand carved linocut plates. Printed with Gerstaecker traditional oil based ink (permanent). Belette Print, Marie-Emilie


Marie-Emilie designs fresh prints using the lino cut or linogravure process. Her prints are created on both paper and fabric. The prints are available for matting and framing, as note cards, purses, bags, and accessories.

"Linocut is easier to operate so I can practice it every day at home with a press for the black line method.Working with animals - they are my favorite models. I particularly like the gracefulness of birds."

Each item listing in the Belette Print Etsy shop includes images of several steps in the creative process. I love that Marie-Emilie takes the time to pass on information about her craft. Her blog Belette Prints Linogravure contains more indepth tutorials. The blog is written in French (why not?). No French? No problem. A picture is truly worth a thousand words.

Lots of blah, blah, wee going on about FaceBook and 25 friends, business pages no longer the be all end all, and having more meaningful interactions with family, friends and in groups. The Dye Garden

The idea of the dye garden is very simple. Request dye plant seeds from me, or buy your own and begin your garden. Doesn't matter whether you have an acre, a small backyard, a window sill or a balcony. See below for links on how to get your seeds started. I've ordered indigo seeds from Botanical Colors (Madam Magyar), Blue Light Junction (grown in Baltimore, MD) and Ossabaw Island, GA (Mayan Blue). Soon indigo seeds should be arriving from my friend Kiri in Brazil.   In addition to the indigo seeds, I also have weld, woad, coreopsis, black hopi sunflower and madder seeds.  This seed variety will produce a full spectrum of colors. Primary colors when used individually in a dyebath, and a host of secondary and tertiary colors when combined.
