Multi-tasking, Again

The day is off to a good start.

Face washed, dog walked, one cup of coffee, steel cut oatmeal for breakfast, emails and social networking checked off the list.

Time to put on a pot of beans for lunch. I cut the veggies, wash the beans, add the seasonings, start on the stove on high to bring to a boil.

That done I can go into the studio, only a few steps away from the kitchen and get started on the days work.

Forty five minutes into the work, I am feeling pleased. But there is a strange sneaking suspicion that something is not right in the back of my mind. Well, actually my nose.

Burnt the beans, again.

I went through a period that lasted about two months where I burned beans or whatever else I cooked - rice, cereal, even stir frys - on a daily basis. My neighbors would come to visit and go straight to the kitchen and turn the burners off. Every pot and pan I owned was burnt. Thank goodness for thrift stores, or I don't know what I would have left to cook in.

Finally, a truly thoughtful neighbor gave me a gift - a crock pot. (I generally think of crock pots as a great way to heat wax for batik or heat setting fabric. You can see what my priority is.)

As you can read this I am edging my way into using the crock pot. But today I'm cooking lentils on the stove top, and watching carefully, kind of. Which reminds me, the temperature needs to be lowered. Doing that now.
